“Grit and grace” is what comes to mind when I think of this month’s “Shine on Sister” profile.
Let me introduce you to Kathy Lentner. This woman gets more done in an afternoon than I do in a week…and I am not kidding. Not only is she highly productive, she also is kind, smart and has tenacious curiosity.
Kathy and I met a few years ago at one of my classes. Apparently, I shared something during class that she found inspiring enough to invite me to coffee. Since then, we have forged a friendship and formed a mastermind group that pushes us (and a few other women) to live more fully.
Why she is special...
Let’s start with the important stuff. Kathy is a very conscientious mother of three boys (ages 11, 8, and 2). This alone could keep a girl hopping…right?
Now, let’s add her first business into the mix. As an independent marketing consultant, she works with businesses to develop their marketing, strategic plan, and their leaders.
If all of that isn’t enough, she is now turning some of her energy towards helping individuals discover their happiest and healthiest selves with coaching and workshops. Enough?
Apparently not! Kathy also volunteers for Girls on the Run. These are just the highlights, she contributes in many other ways, but I could be here all day
What is your beauty philosophy?
I am incredibly lazy when it comes to makeup, hair and clothes so I approach everything with simplicity.
What word would you use to describe your style?
I would like to say “classic” - hopefully it doesn’t come across as “lazy” ;)
What is your daily skincare routine?
Over the past year I have become much more focused on the ingredients that are in my skin care products. Nothing gets on my face or body without first being scanned by my Health Living app. It’s amazing how little I had paid attention to ingredients in cosmetics and daily items like soap and lotion, just buy it and go. We are so picky with the quality of the food we eat but most of us pay little attention to the quality of the ingredients we apply to our skin every day.
How do you keep your body healthy?
Today I don’t have what I would call a great routine but I do pay attention to my movement throughout the day with the goal of 10,000 steps. I bought an Apple Watch a year ago and was amazed when I started to see my activity data, this awareness has really helped me to be very intentional with my movement. Working at home, I didn’t realize how little I might move during a busy day. The data provided some powerful and actionable insight and gets me up and moving.
What is the best thing you have done for yourself within the last year?
In April I participated in a leadership retreat to the Grand Canyon. 4 days, 3 nights, 33+ miles in the Canyon. I had never done anything like it before, it was beautiful and powerful. It’s difficult to put into words the learning and growth that happens during an experience like this. I am lucky to have such a supportive family that made it possible.
What is your parenting philosophy?
I strive for connection every day and this only happens with patience, good communication and being fully present.
There you have it! Kathy is the perfect combination of grit and grace. She is focused, does the hard work, and makes it all look so easy. I hope this SOS inspires you to consider how you could shine a little brighter in your own life.
If you would like to learn more about Kathy's work and even more about living YOUR best life, she is facilitating a Self-Discovery Retreat on August 9 . Find out more here.
